Project Type: UI/UX Design and Research
Role: Project Manager
Timeline: September 2021- May 2022
Tools: Figma, After Effects, Magica Voxel
Overview: A drawing experience that allows you to post your drawings on walls in AR and see them alongside the drawings of other users. Created for a booth at Imagine RIT.
Introduction
For my senior capstone, we were tasked with creating an experience that made people smile. Created as an experience with a booth for a university festival, the typical user would only have a few moments to spend on our experience, so efficiency and clarity were a top priority.
01 Drawing
The core of the experience is allowing the users to create drawings and post them in augmented reality for a unique and memorable experience.
02 Navigation
Making locations recognizable and easy to find to make sure users can actually begin the experience.
03 Collaboration
Making sure our users could see the drawings of other people allowed us to build a sense of community and help make people smile.
Styleguide
Created with a modern feel with a connection to a graffiti style. We wanted to make sure the experience never influenced the user's own artistic style.
3D Rooms
Created in Magica Voxel, these rooms were created to visually represent each location to the attendees at Imagine RIT. We felt the depictions would help users better understand each markers physical location.
Informative Design
Each screen was sure to inform the user of the impact their decisions would have, allowing them to confirm interactions and receive confirmations of successful actions.
Main Menu
The final home screen for the experience. The user would be greeted with the ability to view all locations available for the experience. Our AR system was marker-based, so locations were predetermined and featured a poster in order for the AR to function.
Drawing Screen
This state was created so that users could quickly make new drawings with a simple array of tools at their disposal. They could then transition into the AR posting and view.
AR Application
Users would place their finished drawings on an image of the given location. Then our experience would place it alongside other users' drawings.
User Submissions
With over 900 submissions, we feel that ArtTag was successful in making people smile. We had anticipated far fewer users, so adjusting for the rapid increase certainly proved a valuable hurdle to overcome.
The Team
I had the opportunity to work as a project manager with a team of 8 extremely talented designers and developers. I needed to manage timelines, lead meetings, and ensure that everyone was delivering their best work, myself included.
Conclusion
An intense project with a large timeline, this proved to be the culmination of my time at RIT. Above all else this project taught me the skills necessary to coordinate across various teams of different backgrounds and expertise.
